David Ostrem’s paintings are predicated on the illustration of contemporary issues in culture through text and image. Satirical, political and occasionally brutal, Ostrem uses the word as a structure (“The Failure of Technology ”, “The Failure of Christianity ”) and introduces comic-like frames and conventions such as thought bubbles or notes indicated by arrows, as well as bold headline-inflected statements such as “Art Sucks ”.
